Things to do at night in Vienna beyond the usual list

A real night out in Neubau

So here is a list of the things to do at night in Vienna that is not your usual gpt hackneyed compilation. The first recommendation is of course to go to a place that a few years ago was just a zone where locals went: Neubau. In German means new building and that’s what everybody does here, they build new memories! We’re talking about district 7 and specifically the zone of that district that knows how to drink. It’s a great place to start bar hopping, and that’s what the locals actually do here. They join a pub crawl or they go freestyle to places like Siebenstern, Vier, Rundbar or Le Troquet.

Museum Quartier and Spittelberg after dark

Something also rather unexpected to hear as a recommendation is to go to the Museum Quartier. That’s not something everybody knows as part of a nightplan. The patios, terraces, coffee shops open till late and are great starting points for a good night. Close by you have Spittelberg which is very close by and has bars, restaurants, and those little charming streets that are packed with cosy ambience, core memory material or as you would say it in German: “auf jeden fall” destination.

Cocktail bars in Vienna for a smarter night

Another good tip is to go to Moby Dick or Agent Oscar to ask for some cocktails. These are the names that you might have heard before, total references in the cocktailerie game. Crypt.bar is the underground but also elegant Austria. A combination of the underground side of Vienna plus the elegant gentlemanish facade.

Classic bars and skyline drinks in Vienna

Another recommendation would be to go to Lowe’s, which is an American bar, more than a hundred years old!, a part of Vienna’s history. And if you’re into heights, we recommend you to check out 24 Hours Hotel terrace and the bar, great places to have our first drink with the city skyline as a background. It is not a chaotic ambience, it’s way more on the posh imperial side.

Local places to start the night in Vienna

Another great recommendation is to go to Wiesel, which is a real Vienna bar restaurant. The food is very local and it’s great stuff for the night because it is not touristy at all. It’s where the locals choose to go before a big night. And an alternative to that is the Heurige, which is a typical wine tavern. It’s wine plus cold food to snack on and to share, a more social than elegant alternative plus it’s not expensive! and it’s great for groups!

Nightlife areas in Vienna with local ambience

Naschmarkt is the most famous market in Vienna, and at night it also works as a meeting point. It has in the surroundings restaurants, bars, very tiny streets, charming ambience. And this is also not as much for tourists as it is always packed with locals.

Donaukanal, dancing and live music

As always, the Donaukanal, which is not the main Danube, is a close-by canal that is a very nice thing to see, especially in summer. People are strolling around in hera, dancing in the streets near the canal, just a few steps from the water. Dancing to latin rhythms or drinking something before hitting the big clubs right next to the terraces. Flex is one of the names you will have to remember, an easy word to remember, and it’s close to the canal.

Underground magic and electronic nights

Rooftops are something that is chosen by some of the locals. It is not the cheapest option, but in summer it’s a very nice place to show off your lifestyle and actually enjoy a great, great cocktail: actual pieces of art. But if heights are not for you, we recommend you to look for these weird bars with low lights, some smoke: the underground magic. And yeah, although Vienna is not Berlin in terms of electronic temples, its strength is different. It’s a mix of very crafted electronic underground places.
